A 6-month-baby girl was killed on Sunday in west Delhi’s Shakur Basti slum area where a demolition drive was carried out by Railways. This was part of an anti-encroachment drive conducted by the Railway police, reports NDTV.
It is alleged that as the demolition was carried out without any prior notice. As shanties were being destroyed, a piece of furniture is said to have fallen on the girl, killing her.
Railways has however denied that the girl died due to their demolition drive. The girl died before the drive began, they said in a statement.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal condemned the incident and suspended few officials for failing to provide relief to those rendered homeless.
