Dad Akshay Kumar shares the desi secret of his good health and fitness!
"Very few people know this about me," says Akshay in his video as he shares his secret
Actor and doting father Akshay Kumar is known to be quite the disciplinarian. He loves to stick to time schedules and believes in the quote "Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise."
No wonder then he's already started teaching his kids the same disciplined values. Whether it is making them independent, or helping them learn the art of self-defence, he is on top of his parenting game.
But between a hectic schedule and spending time with his school-going kids, Akshay manages to find sometime alone for himself. In fact, he even recommends everybody to do the same, but in a desi way!
Yes, that's correct.
Akshay's desi living
In a video that Khiladi Kumar recently shared, where he admitted to having been on an Ayurvedic retreat. But the message that he shared was beyond powerful and truly an eye-opener.
Akshay's secret to healthy living
In his video he explained how the treatment made him feel healthier and heavenly. He even urged his fans to switch to his way of living and adopt this special treatment that he assures would benefit one and all. Here's the excerpt from his enlightening video:
"I am feeling very light and healthy these days. For the past few days, I've been away from the hustle-bustle of the city and have been living in an Ayurvedic ashram in Kerala. I felt as though I was in heaven. No television, no phone, no junk food, no branded clothes. Just one plain white kurta-pyjama, satvik food and ayurvedic treasure.
Very few people know this about me. I have been following ayurveda for the past 25 years. And this time the ayurvedic healing I've experienced was kamaal! Just like you get your car or scooter serviced, for the past 14 days I've been getting my body serviced. And I came to realise that in the form of ayurveda, god has gifted such a tremendous treasure. And we do not respect this treasure at all.
We have been popping pills, taking steroid injections and eating proteins, thinking this is life. And should I tell you guys something interesting? The medicines and treatments that we are adopting from the west and the people who invested those treatments are coming to our country and getting treated through ayurveda.
When will we realise the value of our home-grown treasure?
I don't have any issue with allopathic medicines and treatments. They are good in what they do. But why are we forgetting our own traditional methods? For instance, ayurveda, naturopathy, yoga and even siddha and unnani.
Yes, I have heard that sometimes people mix certain things like lead and arsenic in ayurvedic medicines and cheat people. But if you approach an authentic place, there is no medical issue that Indian medicl system cannot treat. Do you know that government has a full-fledged ministry called AYUSH (the Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy). And if you take a treatment from them, you get the same medical benefits and insurance as any other allopathic treatment.
But I'll tell you something. Not only are they natural, they are also scientific. Every treatment has a sure shot logic. But out situation is just like that adage, "Diya Tale Andhera." The best treatment is in our country, but we try to look for it abroad. I am saying all os this as the brand ambassador of my own body. And I request you all to become the brand ambassadors of your own bodies.
Let's show the world that the power of ayurveda and yoga can defeat any chemical injection by a foreign doctor."
Lauded by doctors
This video has already been shared over 82,000 times and has got over 4 lakh likes and over 22,000 comments, and has clearly created a stir online. In fact, people are lauding his statements and ayurvedic doctors are praising him for bringing to fore an important form of medical treatment in India.
Since he follows the natural form of treatment, no wonder he's so fit and encourages the same in his kids as well.
But how can regular dads at home maintain themselves, especially with a busy lifestyle and demanding jobs? We spoke to celebrity fitness expert, Vinod Channa who suggested a few ways Indian father can workout.
3 ways fathers can maintain themselves
- First up, a proper diet, healthy food and eating right is what most men must concentrate on. Then think about hitting the gym.
- Start with light exercises and begin it with easy pace. You can try yoga with exercise, because you'll not only stay fit but also feel de-stressed and calmer.
- the move onto some hard exercises because they boost your energy level and also increase your potential. Practice endurance exercise as a way to protect the body's metabolism from the effects of age. It also reduces body fat, sensitises the body's tissues to insulin, and lowers blood sugar levels.
