"Thing is we both still love our space," says the happy wife as she reveals more about her unconventional marriage and the couple's happy life

Love does not need a public validation, nor does it need a certificate. All it needs are two people who truly believe in it. And that's exactly what this 'new-age' Mumbai couple have proved.

In a beautiful story of acceptance, commitment and friendship, this Mumbai-based banker shares how her marriage broke conventional rules of the society and became an example to many.

Her journey begins

Featured in Humans of Bombay, she begins by sharing that her ideas of marriage were different from the conventional ideas and she believed in standing on her feet first.

"I've been a banker all my life. I only started working by the time I was 28 and that what's my entire focus was on -- I didn't pay too much attention to marriage, infact I don't think it even crossed my mind. I met my partner when I was 29, and we were great friends with a great understanding of each other," she begins.

As an independent and strong woman, she concentrated in her career, while living a happy life with her partner. And it was only after a few years that she decided to take the next step.

"I've always been independent and focused on a path of self- discovery before anything else and he understood that. We decided to get married only 10 years later -- not that we ever needed a piece of paper to validate our relationship; he was my partner in every aspect long before we took those Pheras. There was a lot of noise around our wedding-- so many people were talking about how it would never last...but people will always talk, what can you do?" she shared.

"But the wedding was a beautiful, small, intimate affair -- we decided to get married on Monday and the same Friday we already were!" she says.

Secret to their happy marriage

She shares that while the couple does many things together, the real secret of their happiness is the space that they give one another.

"He's around here somewhere -- thing is we both still love our space so because he's so tall and I can never keep up with him...we go for our walks separately. It's funny, sometimes I pass by him and we wave at each other like we're two friends who haven't seen each other in a while and after about an hour, we'll both meet at one point and go home together!" she signs off.
