Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna are known for their unconventional parenting style. From relinquishing their kids from their inheritance, to grooming them to stand on their own feet, to making them learn how to defend themselves- the Kumars set a new example each day.
But in all this, they do have one thing in common. The Kumars always encourage their kids to participate in activities and take up vocations that they have themselves done. So while Akshay encourages his kids to learn self-defense, Twinkle teaches them to study uniquely.
But this time Khanna proved that if there was one thing that the entire family loved to do, it was cooking. When on some days Akshay and Aarav take over the kitchen, on other days the mother-daughter duo do some baking together.
And Mrs Funnybones recently proved it with a photograph.
Teaching Nitara an important life skill!
She took her daughter for a baking class this weekend, and the two visibly enjoyed their time together. Along with the picture Twinkle even wrote: "A sublime Saturday baking with my little monster #flavourdiaries (sic)."
But why should this simple activity by a famous couple and their kids be looked at as inspiration? Well, its simple.
Cooking is a basic life skill. For every kid who knows how to sort a simple dish from left overs will certainly be healthier than child who cannot and ends up eating noodles and chips.
Plus, cooking can become a source of pride for kids giving them the confidence that they can take care of themselves even when their parents are not present.
Yes, it may sometimes seem like a task to teach your toddlers to sit at one place when they accompany you to the kitchen. Or force your teenagers to learn how to cook so they can take care of themselves later.
But, there are far too many advantages of helping them learn how to cook. Here are our top five picks.
4 reasons you should teach your kids how to cook
- Cooking helps kids become better tasters and healthy eaters: When you encourage your kid to cook with you in the kitchen you allow them to experiment with food-both raw and cooked. This helps them develop better taste and understanding of what is going in their bellies.
- Cooking helps kids understand health: If you recall, our mums often told us about the benefits of the spices and raw materials they used in subzi and daal, as they prepared them. It stayed with many of us and we were able to learn their value as we grew older. You can pass the same knowledge to your kids in the kitchen as well.
- Cooking helps kids develop confidence: Lets be honest, cooking is no rocket science. Putting together a few ingredients to make a healthy and tasty dish should not be made to look like the most difficult job in the world. And with an opportunity to do the same in the house, you let your kid have the confidence to do things on their own.
- Cooking brings everybody together: Just as food brings everybody together, cooking can also bring people of all ages together. While in the kitchen, you share recipes, anecdotes, family history and special recipes and that brings one and all together, irrespective of their ages.
