I remember the Sundays when my dad used to make us breakfast. He used to experiment a lot, and we were his guinea pigs. My mum used to be tensed, as he used to leave the kitchen in a mess after the breakfast, but overall, they were great Sundays!
When we found out that my wife was pregnant, I took it on myself to make breakfast at least on weekends. There are some traditional breakfast recipes, but I have also come up with a few of my own. I hope you find them useful.
1# Microwave eggs

This is the simplest breakfast one can ever make. It is much faster than the masala omelette, and you can literally have one ready in three minutes.
This will provide your wife and children all the proteins they needs with a great taste.
Ingredients
- 1 slice of brown bread per serving
- 1 egg per serving
- Grated cheddar cheese
- Microwave-safe cup or a breakfast bowl
- Laal Mirch, garam masala/oregano for seasoning
- Bacon for extra crunch (optional)
Recipe
In a microwave-safe cup, lay the bread so that it forms the base. Let the sides turn up.
Grate some cheese on top of it. Add some laal mirch and garam masala if you want. Alternately, you can put some oregano.
Break an egg in over the cheese. If the yolk is still intact, poke it with a fork at two places.
Microwave it for 60 to 90 seconds till the egg cooks.
Scoop it out with a spoon. It looks delicious!
If you want a crunchy base, heat a pan and add some butter. Grill the creation, and it is good to go!

2# Cheela burgers

Cheela, or Tomato omelette as it is known in Mumbai, is a tasty, quick and nutritious meal. It fills you up till a late Sunday lunch. The quick nature makes it amazing!
To give it an urban twist, you can make it as a patty, and consume it as a burger. It looks good and tastes even better.
Ingredients
- 5-6 big spoons of Besan (Gram flour)
- 1 carrot grated/ sprouts
- Burger bread
- Tomato, onion and iceberg lettuce for the burger
- Salt and laal mirch for seasoning
- Barbeque sauce for taste
Recipe
Take the besan in a bowl. Add some salt and laal mirch and mix it with a fork.
Then add the grated carrot or some sprouted moong to the besan. Mix it well. It will form a dry paste.
Add small quantities of water and let it turn into a thick batter.
In a pan, heat some oil/butter.
Take some batter in a big spoon and make a small cheela on the pan, about 2.5 inches in diameter and about 0.5 cm thick. Don’t make it too thick; it will not cook well.
Cook on one side for about two minutes, and then turn. Keep on turning till both sides are golden brown.
Take the burger bread, and toast the inner sides lightly on a pan. Lay the lettuce. Add a bit of Barbeque sauce, then lay this patty. Grate some cheese on the patty, then lay another patty on it. Top it up with cut onions and tomato. Feel free to experiment with various ingredients.
Enjoy the burger with masala chai!
