Bradley Cooper gets ’excited’ looking at his unborn child’s scan! Aww!

Bradley Cooper gets ’excited’ looking at his unborn child’s scan! Aww!Bradley Cooper gets ’excited’ looking at his unborn child’s scan! Aww!

The joy of having a kid is unmatched. More so for first-time dads. Bradley Cooper is sailing in that boat and is over the moon at the idea of having one.

The American Sniper star can’t contain his joy each time he looks at the scan of his unborn baby, according to this report. Bradley Cooper is expecting his first child with Victoria’s Secret model, Irina Shayk. Now, he has joined the league of super excited first-time dads!

According to the report, the expectant father has been there by the side of his partner all along. Clearly, the hunk is showing signs that he is going to be a doting father to his child.

For most first-time fathers, the idea of having a child is scary as well as exciting. I recall the time my husband and I realised I was pregnant. As we hadn’t really planned the pregnancy, I was not sure how to react. Then I saw my husband, grinning ear-to-ear saying the corniest thing ever, “It’s God’s gift. Be happy!” After I was done rolling my eyes, I looked at him wondering whether anyone can fake joy of this level and I realised this man was actually thrilled about the prospect of becoming a father. I smiled.

So what is it about being first-time dads that get the men so excited? Of course, one can't generalise, but this is something I have noticed in a lot of guys. While they are clueless (as is the first-time mother) about the what-next of things, they are just overjoyed. Adorable, yes! But, perhaps this joy should be coupled with a sense of responsibility as well.

First-time dads

Here are some tips for responsible first-time dads to make life easier for the first-time mums!

  • Read some books on pregnancy: The more you know about what pregnancy and the changes that ensue in a woman, the better. This will also help you with information on baby’s development in the womb as well. If you were excited about the thought of having a baby, knowing his week-by-week milestone will super-excite you.
  • Be by her side for every doctor’s appointment: Perhaps it’s just me, but I get unnerved going to the doctor, even if it’s for a regular vaccine shot.   So I could never imagine not having my husband by my side at each doctor’s visit. Assuming your wife isn’t as jelly-kneed, she’d still feel loved and cared for with you by her side.
  • Help out around the house: Now that you’ve read up on the myriad pregnancy-related books, you must know that your wife’s body is making the necessary changes needed to carry your baby. This will leave her exhausted, especially in the first and third trimester. She may not be able to do her share of chores. Understand her condition, appreciate whatever she is able to do, and pitch in with the rest of the chores.
  • Let the romance live on: Your wife is pregnant. She is not ill. She may have her tantrums, her share of exhaustion, coupled with mood swings, but understand that she is undergoing a massive physical transformation. She may not ask for romance, but she may need it… just to feel better about herself, if nothing else. A growing belly (and other body parts) doesn’t really make you feel like God’s gift to mankind. Indulge her. For you, she may be the most beautiful mom-to-be. Let her know that. A happy mum raises a happy bub… and it starts right from the womb.

Pregnancy is a physical as well as an emotional rollercoaster for most first-time mums. Understand that and play along. There will be days when you wouldn’t recognise the weepy/raging person walking to and fro in the living room. But hey, there’s another human growing in her womb and hormones too have a mind of their own.
