Ask your husbands to not endorse pan masala: Delhi government writes to star wives

The Delhi government has written letters to star-wives, including Gauri Khan and Malaika Arora Khan, urging them to encourage their husbands to not endorse pan masala and other products.

We all agree that wives know how to get anything (should we say everything) done by their husbands. And the one body that seems to be nodding in agreement is the Delhi government. In an interesting move, the Delhi government has written letters to star-wives urging them to encourage their husbands to not endorse pan masala and other products.

What made the Delhi government write letters

Apparently the Delhi government had approached the actors first, but having failed to get a response for them they thought it would be a better idea to reach out to their wives. The reason for this move is that pan masala contains areca nuts, which has been listed as a cancer-causing agent.

According to experts, areca nut, the main ingredient in pan masala, is in the league of caffeine, tobacco and alcohol when it comes to addictive properties and also leads to a high number of cases of submucous fibrosis, which can easily turn cancerous.

In January, the health department had written to six actors, which included Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Ajay Devgan requesting them not to endorse pan masala.

Additional Director (Health), Delhi Government, S K Arora has written to Kajol, wife of actor Ajay Devgn, Gauri Khan, wife of Shah Rukh Khan, Malaika Arora Khan, wife of Arbaaz Khan and Suneeta Ahuja, wife of actor Govinda asking them to persuade their husband not to endorse pan masala products in larger public interest.

"Humble appeal to you for encouraging Mr Shah Rukh Khan not to participate in advertisements of pan masala in larger public health interest. Earlier, a letter was written to Mr Khan for not to participate in such advertisements in public interest. Nonetheless, I have not received any response till date nor he has plugged doing such advertisements," Arora said in his letter to Gauri Khan.

How wives can be good influencers

This story points out to the fact that wives can be great influencers for their husbands. According to a popular saying, the best way to reach to a man's heart is through his stomach. However, there are other ways also that can influence your husband to do what you want, particularly if you want him to give up a bad habit such as smoking.

  • Be a wife he can trust as influence comes from trust. Also, always give him the benefit of doubt first before jumping to your own conclusion.
  • Lead by example and make sure that you practice what you preach.
  • Do not disrespect or disregard him in public as that incident would be etched in his heart forever.
  • Never ever disrespect him in front of the kids as he means the world to them.
  • Do not nag him constantly as there are times he needs his own personal space.
