In a tweet that evoked empathy and compassion, megastar Amitabh Bachchan, urged his fans to make "this world a better place for children," and refrain from employing young children as labour.
He tweeted: "Each of us has the power to make this world a better place for children. #dont_employ_little_ones."
The cine icon joins the league of many celebrities like cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar, chess champion Viswanathan Anand and actors Soha Ali Khan, Kunam Khemu and Mandira Bedi for Reliance General Insurance's Twitter campaign against child labour that affects a large number of children in the country.
In fact, in 2013, the Punjab and Haryana High Court gave a landmark judgement that directed a total ban on the employment of children up to the age of 14 years, be it hazardous or non-hazardous industries. However, the Court ruled that a child can work in his or her family in family based trades/occupations, or for the purpose of learning a new trade/craftsmanship or vocation.
On the work front, Bachchan is currently working on his next, Pink. He also tweeted about his work with the Pink unit.
He posted: "What a day at 'Pink'! Watching young talent put in amazing work ... whole unit claps ... so deserving. Happiness is being in the company of incredible young talent! Laughter and tears of joy! God bless them."
Produced by Shoojit Sircar, Pink is directed by Bengali filmmaker Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, and also stars actor Taapsee Pannu.
