Many of us have special relationships with our teachers who taught us in childhood and continue to inspire us later on in life. That one guru has a special place in your heart and you always treasure the moments you spent with your favourite teacher for the rest of your life.

Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was left speechless at one such event when she met her childhood dance teacher, renowned dancer Lata Surendra at the first ever World Congress of Dance in India. “I danced with her from second grade to seventh grade and ever since then, dancing became my way of life. I knew what I was experiencing with her, from her would remain a part of me always. I am very emotional right now. There’s no bigger joy than to see your guru perform and if she does for you, then it becomes a different honour,” Aishwarya said at the event.

Guru-shishya parampara in India

The guru-disciple tradition is perhaps a unique feature of Indian culture. Indian history is full of instances where the guru-shishya relationship has been treasured and has gone down as examples for generations to come:

1. Dronacharya-Arjun: This was one relationship that perhaps showed us how far a Guru can go to make sure that his student succeeds in life. No one can forget how Dronacharya asked Eklavya to chop off his thumb so that Arjun has no one who could stop him from becoming the biggest warriors of Indian history.

2. Dronocharya-Eklavya: While everyone talked about Dronacharya and Arjun's relationship, we can also not forget how Eklavya willingly chopped off his thumb on Droncharya's request without batting an eyelid. Though Eklavya couldn't become as big a warrior as Arjun, he is still used an example of an ideal student for the love and dedication he had for his Guru Dronacharya.

3. Ramakant Achrekar-Sachin Tendulkar: In today's times, the most special guru-shishya relationship is that of master blaster Sachin Tendulkar and his cricketing guru Ramakant Achrekar. Sachin has often times maintained that all the success he has got over the years is because of his coach and guru, Ramakant Achrekar.
