After my parents, Maanayata has been my pillar of strength: Sanjay Dutt

After my parents, Maanayata has been my pillar of strength: Sanjay Dutt

However, Sanju baba does regret that his kids couldn't get the love and affection from their grandparents, Nargis and Sunil Dutt.

We all know that through all the tough years of his trial and after that when he was in Pune's Yerwada jail, there was one person that was and has been a constant in Sanjay Dutt's life- Maanayata Dutt. And the actor can't thank his wife enough for being by his side through thick and thin.

"She's a wife, a friend and a mother, someone who has her head on her shoulders and the right values. After my parents, she's been my pillar of strength, given me a home and beautiful kids. I'm lucky to be married to her, she is a wonderful wife," Sanjay Dutt told a leading Mumbai tabloid.

If Sanjay Dutt is to be believed Maanayata is a great businesswoman and is the one who is taking care of their production company. He jokes that now he spends his time taking care of the kids when their mother is away.

"The company is Maanayata's baby. As soon as I wake up, I think about what to give them for breakfast and in their tiffin for lunch since their mom is out of town," he says.

Maanyata, on the other hand, has loads of work, says Sanju, adding that she makes more money than him.

"She's very creative, kuch kuch karti rehti hai. Yes, there are offers to design interiors. Maanayata has the ability to make a space a home and people like that. She's making more money than me," he adds.

There is no doubt that Sanjay is in a happy space now. Today when he sees his wife and their son Shahraan, he's reminded of the bond that he shared with his mother Nargis Dutt.

"It’s not just about me and her, every son has a special connect with his mother. Today, when I see Maanayata and Shahraan, who is the apple of her eye, I’m reminded of Nargis and Sanjay," he added.

But there is one regret that Sanju baba has that his kids missed out on all the love from their Dadaji, Sunil Dutt, and their Dadi, Nargis Dutt. Sanju says he still misses him and wished that he was with them today.

“Dutt saab was a different man. Maybe when I was my kids’ age, he was with me the way I am with them. I can’t fire them; he was strict but had his own ways of showing his love. I miss him as an anchor and a pillar of strength. I miss that my children have missed out on his love. He would have been so happy spending time with them. Ditto my mother,” he added.

Why grandparents are important

Sanjay Dutt has made a very valid point in his last statement. Grandparents are indeed a blessing for any child and it's a bond that is really close to a child's heart.

  • Grandparents can, in fact, play an important role in building the value system of a small child. Sadly, in this age of nuclear families kids today are missing out on the values and principles that their parents received from their fathers and mothers.
  • Grandparents can be that much-needed channel that parents need to inculcate family values, beliefs, and principles in their kids. As kids really don't like listening to their parents all the time, grandparents can be useful in teaching kids simple lessons from everyday life.
  • Grandparents can also be the much-needed support system for working mums and parents who are too busy to spend quality time with their kids.
  • They also help the child develop a close emotional bond with other family members and make him realize the importance of having a close-knitted family.
