Abacus, a calculating machine which has been used worldwide since 2700-2300 BC. It's a great tool to teach your kids all about mathematics.

Why not introduce them to the numbers that they are going to play with in their entire life? Here are five reasons why you should introduce your child to Abacus at an early age.

The vibrant colours attract them

The vibrant colours attract them

Kids love to see the bright colours and there can’t be anything better than handing over the Abacus to them when they turn two or three. Once they start learning new words, they get curious about anything and everything around them.

Without too much of efforts, your kid will start asking you about the colourful beads available in the Abacus and you wont even realize how quickly they will pick up the names of the colours even before they are ready to go to school.

Helps them understand numbers

Your job doesn’t get over if you just buy an Abacus and give it to your kid to play with it. It’s important that you spend sometime with your little ones on it and teach them the numbers written on every bead.

Remember not to put too much pressure on kids to learn all the numbers in one day, which can lead them to lose interest in it very quickly. Try and teach them one word in two days and ask them to repeat each time you tell them about a new number. The repetition will help your kids in recognizing the numbers without any hassle.

An interesting gaming tool

Make your kid understand that abacus is just not a toy but it can also be a great game.

To begin with, you can play “match my move” with your kids in which you keep all the beads at one side. To make it interesting, you move few beads on one side of the frame and ask your eager child to match your move on the row below.

Each time, you can keep the number different and ask your child to repeat the same. You can also play a counting game with your child in which you move a certain number of beads to one side and ask your child to count how many beads are left on the other side. This will surely make them fast learners.

Introduces them to mathematics

With abacus, you can make addition, subtraction, division and multiplication – all sound very easy. The easiest one to understand is addition and the method is very simple.

For example, if you want your kid to add 5 + 2, you can move five beads to one side of the frame in one row and then move two beads of the second row to the other side and ask your child to show you the total number in the third row.

You can also ask them to calculate the total number on their fingers before they actually move the total number of beads. Once your children learn addition, you can go on teaching them other methods before they start going to the primary school.

Improves concentration

Improves concentration

One of the benefits of teaching your child abacus is that they generally use their brain a lot in solving all your queries related to math, which means they can concentrate on things better than other children. Abacus doesn’t just let your child achieve high marks in arithmetic but also in all the other subjects because of their focus in studies.

Also, once your children start solving the problems by putting in so much effort, they start feeling proud of themselves. Automatically, they become more confident and get ready to fight with any challenge in life to become successful.
