Along with mum Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and her entire family, the young and sombre looking Aaradhya paid her homage to her beloved naana

It was a sombre mood at the Taj Lands End Hotel in Mumbai, where the Bachchan family ascended to pay homage to Aishwarya's late father Krishnaraj Rai. On the occasion of his chautha, the entire family was spotted, including the five-year-old Aaradhya.

The 78-year-old passed away on March 18, after battling lymphoma cancer. He was in the Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai, for over two weeks where sadly his health was constantly deteriorating and he breathed his last on Saturday.

The sad news had clearly affected all who came to pay their last respects at the prayer meet. Everybody had an earnest look on their faces and were seen consoling Aishwarya and her mother as well as Aaradhya and her uncle Aditya Rai.

The entire Bachchan family including the patriarch Amitabh Bachchan, wife Jaya Bachchan came to pay their last respect to the late Krishnaraj Rai.

In fact, right after his demise when Aishwarya was still coming to terms with the news, Amitabh Bachchan had also penned a touching note.

He shared the note on his personal blog and also thanked all of their fans for paying their personal respects to Shri Krishnaraj Rai through Twitter and other social media.

In his emotional note, Amitabh wrote, "That call you wait anxiously knowing that it will come, and come it does to end all other calls .. glimpses of reactions in the mind, of the lost one, of those that shall reflect on the lost one .. and suddenly then in the midst of sorrow and grief among the grieved and grieving .."

He added, "That walk to the ultimate destination and the reality .. embracing the tragedy, the discussions on its transport, its rituals, its formalities .. the custom, the tradition, the visitors with the sadness and the embrace of consolation .. the last rites, the carriage, the placement, the cremation .. what to say what to put out where to put to .. all laden with grief and departure ..."

"And the happiest of them all, is the one that has gone .. for he is already in the arms of the heavens and in a realm of peace and tranquility ...

In grief..." he penned.

The prayer meet also saw many famous faces, including yesteryear actresses Neetu Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia who came along with daughter Twinkle Khanna.

While the Kapoor's are related to the Bachchan family since their daughter Shweta is married to Neetu's sister-in-law Ritu Nanda's son; Dimple is a close family friend.

Many celebs who came to pay respects looked rather sombre. Sridevi and husband Boney Kapoor as well as Sonali Bendre Behl were some other prominent faces.

The late Krishnaraj Rai's illness was initially kept under wraps, but it was later revealed that he suffered from lymphoma cancer.

In fact, while speaking to the media, Dr V Shankaran, chief executive office, Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai, revealed, "He was suffering from lymphoma that spread to his brain.”

While the critical nature of his illness was still hidden from the outside world, a source close to mum Aishwarya told media that during his ordeal beti Aishwarya was always beside him, spending sleepless nights at the hospital.

“It’s a stressful time for the actor, who was spending sleepless nights at the hospital,” shared the source at the time.

As Aishwarya Rai Bachchan comes to terms with her loss, we pray that Shri Krishnaraj Rai rest in peace. This is truly a difficult time for the entire family.

And with a five-year-old in tow, Aishwarya has a bigger responsibility- that of telling her daughter about what transpired and consoling her at every step; since we know how close Aaradhya was to her naana who she affectionately called dodda.
