9 things you do NOT say to a pregnant woman9 things you do NOT say to a pregnant woman

If you know a pregnant woman, think before you speak. Here's a list of things not to say to a pregnant woman

Tell the world about your pregnancy, get a truckload of advice for free. Now we bet, no expecting mum knows of that deal. Throughout those eventful nine months, a pregnant woman will be at the receiving end of all types of questions or suggestions from anyone and everyone. While she will be grateful for some of them, others might rub her the wrong way.

To find out what could really put a pregnant mum off, read on. So if you speak to her, you will know what not to say. And if you’re expecting, show this to all your well-wishers so that they can escape your wrath.

Things not to say to a pregnant woman

#1 Oh my God, you’re pregnant? I thought you had put on weight on your tummy!

No, I have eaten a baby alive as I’m on a special diet. And if you don’t stop talking, I may eat you too.

#2 Do you want a girl or a boy?

Hey, I never got any option when I conceived. Did you? Are you allowed to choose like this?

#3 Congratulations! Are you happy?

Ummm…. now, let me think. No I’m depressed. I’m thinking about holding an angelic infant in my arms and crying already.

#4 You are not standing properly. You will not have a normal delivery.

I’m not feeling any normal anyways, so I’m not really thinking about my delivery right now. And regarding my posture, since you’re not my doctor, I suggest we change the topic.

#5 You’re so huge already. Are you sure you're not carrying twins?

Excuse me? I had a look at my own ultrasound. Unless you have a special scanner eye that tells you things I don’t know about.

#6 Are you going to stop working when the baby is here?

Yes and no, and I may just decide to put your name in the 'reason for quitting' column if I do.

#7 You have some appetite. I see you eating all the time.

I’m pregnant, I’m hungry. I will eat when and what I like. It’s your problem if you see me every time I’m munching.

#8 Oh, look at your tummy. It’s definitely a boy. I bet on it.

Are you imagining this, or is your scanner eye acting up again? I’m getting freaked out by it. You better take it out before I call the police and charge you for snooping.

#9 Are you ready to become a mom?

Well, that was why I got pregnant in the first place, but I will get back to you when I’m on the other side.

A pregnant woman is nervous with the new phase in her life and unwanted advice unsettles her. So if you know a woman who will be having a baby soon, be nice and say, “ you look gorgeous,” instead. She will love you for that.
