Remember the times when all of us used to look at our pockets before even thinking about going on a holiday during the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ? Things have changed by leaps and bounds over a period of time, with lots of airlines and hotels providing Christmas packages.

The challenge is to seal the dates and pick up a destination that gives you a complete celebration feel. Here are some of the cities within India that can get you excited for your family Christmas break without making a hole in your pocket.

Goa

When we talk about Christmas or New Year, the first stop in India has to be Goa. Large number of Roman Catholic population and its Portuguese history makes this city all the more vibrant on the Christmas.

From churches to restaurants to beaches, every corner of Goa welcomes the locals and tourists with sparkling lights. While restaurants offer you to get indulge in the delicious Christmas brunches, the churches welcome you for midnight mass. One can also enjoy full night parties at beaches like Morjim, Anjuna and Candolim.

Kolkata

Kolkata

The city of joy that is known for its Bengali delicacies and spirit of celebrating festivals like Durga Puja, but it is also a great option for a Christmas holiday. Your Christmas can’t be completed without paying a visit to Kolkata’s famous Park Street that is lit up at least a week in advance for a Christmas carnival.

Many popular city bands come here to perform during the carnival while school students come to participate in Christmas parade. Mouthwatering food doesn’t come easy to you unless you are ready to stand in long queues outside the restaurants at Park Street.

Manali

If you want to celebrate your Christmas with Santa in the form of snowman, you don’t need to look further. Manali is the perfect place for those who want to experience the New York winter within India.

This popular Himachal destination offers skiing and ice hockey during the day and number of big Christmas parties in the evening.

Make sure that your hotel is booked well in advance which provides bonfire, as the accommodation is the first thing to get booked during Christmas week.

Mumbai

The financial capital might not sound very interesting for a usual holiday but it’s a must visit during Christmas. Even if one doesn’t have much time to see the entire city, the locality of Bandra can be pretty attractive on this day.

A number of Christmas carnivals at restaurants like Candies or Eat Around the Corner in Bandra West show you the spirits of celebrating Christmas. Bandra’s Christian fraternity, which is highest in Mumbai, makes sure that you meet Santa Claus in some form as you take a stroll on Carter Road or Band Stand promenade.

Pondicherry

Pondicherry

Officially known as Puducherry since 2006, its colonial buildings, churches and French quarter attract number of visitors on Christmas. One can enjoy a quiet yet amazing holiday experience here among the French community that often comes to this city during Christmas break.

Food lovers can hit a number of French restaurants decorated with Christmas bells and red and white balloons for yummy cakes and French wine while families can enjoy a blissful walk at the Promenade beach, also known as Pondicherry beach.

Shillong

Shillong

Meghalaya’s capital and a beautiful hill station, Shillong, is a shelter of many Christians and can be a great option for a Christmas holiday. Visitors can find branches from pine trees that are stacked in and around Motphran, Jaiaw and other places to be used as Christmas trees in their houses which can also be a nice souvenir.

Huge markets and churches decorated with lights and warmth of people staying in this town gives you a sheer joy and makes you feel at home.
