5-year-old crushed under a reversing school bus yet again highlights negligence
Singh was standing behind the school bus, when the driver in an alleged attempt to park hastily crushed the boy under its wheels
A child's safety in school is usually the responsibility of the school. Once he leaves the premises of his home and enters the school bus, it's the authorities responsibility to care for the kid.
But it seems this responsibility is often taken too lightly. Case in point is a sad news that comes from Patiala where a 5-year-old boy was crushed by a school bus while it was reversing.
What exactly happened
Prabhjot Singh, 5, a kindergarten school student was reportedly crushed under his school bus just outside the school gates. The fateful incident took place at 9.15 am when the bus of his school, SM International School, Friends Colony, near the Patiala-Rajpura road, starting to disembark the students.
Reportedly Singh was standing behind the bus, when the driver in an alleged attempt to park hastily crushed the boy under its wheels. The bus also had a female attendant apart from the driver, both of whom failed to notice the kid standing behind the bus.
Soon after, the boy was rushed to a nearby private hospital and his parents were also informed.
Dr J S Sra, medical superintendent at the hospital spoke to Hindustan Times and shared, "The boy was in a critical condition when he was brought to the hospital. He did not have any head injury but had received severe injuries on the chest following which a chest tube was inserted."
What happened next
Sadly, the boy could not fight back and succumbed to the grievous injuries and died by 4pm.
On hearing the news of his death, his father Iqbal Singh, a photographer, reportedly collapsed in the hospital and so did his mother for the same reason.
Naturally, it is a very tough time for the parents who were in no position to share the ordeal with the media. However, a relative of the family, one Raj Kumar demanded that a complaint be filed against the school owner. "If that does not happen, we will hold protest,” he told the media.
The family has for the time being filed a complaint against the school management as well as the driver and a magisterial probe has also been ordered.
