5 ways to make Karva Chauth easier during pregnancy

You can get away with eating fruits or vrat ka khaana on any of the traditional Indian fasts, but not Karva Chauth.

Once started, tradition says women must continue to keep it for their husband's health and longevity. But it often puts an expecting mum in much dilemma, because you are no longer eating for your own health, but also for the health of your unborn child.

So how can expecting women have a safe and healthy Karva Chauth? Well, we decode some simple ways in which you can make the most of this day and manage to keep yourself healthy.

Consult with your specialist

Consult with your specialist

Just like your pregnancy, you need consultation for Karva Chauth as well. Yes, you read that right.

Since the fast requires you to only eat once and that too early morning and stay without any form of liquid during the day, such type of a fast can lead to acid reflux, dehydration and even low blood pressure.

So consult with your doctor before you actually keep this tough fast. Depending on your trimester, your doctor can guide you on whether or not it's safe for you and your baby to abstain from any form of nutrition during the day.

Do not panic

Do not panic

Our bodies are usually able to store enough fat and energy through the day's food that even if we skip a meal, our bodies can sustain themselves.

However, during pregnancy skipping a meal could lead to nausea, dizziness and as mention even low blood pressure.

So the best way to deal with these issues is to head to a doctor immediately and if need be, break the fast.

Eat a healthy meal for Sargi

Eat a healthy meal for Sargi

Sargi is one of the crucial parts of Karva Chauth and while it does have a lot of dry fruits, the actual meal may be extremely heavy, brining your normal energy down.

And if you are suffering from any of the normal pregnancy woes including morning sickness, consuming a heavy sargi may actually not be a good idea.

So prepare a wholesome meal including fruits, milk, and fibre-rich foods as well as lots of water for hydration.

Your health is more important

Your health is more important

Yes, Karva Chauth is a beautiful festival for many and women look forward to celebrating it, however, let's not forget it is also one of the toughest.

If you have so far constantly felt the need to eat (even if it to control morning sickness), then it's better to avoid fasting and just participate in the celebrations and the prayers.

After all, yours as well as your baby's health comes first.

Keep yourself occupied

Keep yourself occupied

After having consulted with your doctor and with proper precautions, if you do decide to go ahead with the fast then another way to do it successfully is to keep yourself distracted.

Do not think about the hunger pans and try to rest as much as possible. But remember, that health comes first and even your husband will not want your to risk it for him.

On that note, here's wishing all our lovely readers a very Happy Karva Chauth.
