As somebody who loves to experiment with clothes, I try new traditional wear each year for Diwali. This year, of course, will be no exception.
And even though following any trend blindly is not advised, the year 2016 was possible the best for pret fashion and had so many great ideas that you'll probably love to add into your wardrobe.
These are wearable, fashionable and most importantly look great on any size! So let's begin with options of traditional and trending Diwali looks that you must try this festive season.
#1 Cape crops
This is possible one of the most loved styles, especially among Indian mums. It's perfect if you are not confident about showing off your arms and want to hide a bit of belly.
But even if you're not, this is a very elegant style that maintains the perfect balance between showing a bit of skin and hiding areas that may not be so flattering.
Plus, the colours with which you can coordinate a net cape are endless. We suggest going for something similar to what mum-to-be Kareena Kapoor Khan is sporting. You can also pair your capes with the trending bold floral prints.

#2 Belted saree
Another fantastic trend that has caught the attention of ace designers such as Sabyasachi and even Anita Dongre is the belted saree. It's really is the perfect outfit for evening Diwali celebrations that may include running around to light diyas or make rangoli or just hang out with friends.
Not only does it look great, it gives you the comfort to run around kids during the festivities and basically move around comfortably in the house, without having to worry about the pallu. We also loved the way Shilpa kept her blouse so fashion-forward and almost shirt-like. It gave the entire outfit a very modern look.
Take a cue from yummy-mummy Shilpa Shetty Kundra, who looks breathtaking in this trending colour and style.

This is a spin-off of the off-shoulder trend we are witnessing these days and looks amazing on mum Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
Instead of going in for anything elaborate, just get a heavily embroidered off-shoulder and pair it with cigarette pants, jeggings, palazzos, sharara, the works!
This kinds of kurta can be worn with literally anything and is a great bet for mothers who have young kids who you'd want to supervise. It's trendy on point and gives you just enough wiggle room to hide any bulges you don't find flattering. Take a cue from the Bachchan bahu and accessorise it minimally to let the kurta stand out.

#5 Bell sleeves
Ladies, retro is back and you can finally rock your bell mother's beloved bell sleeves. Rage her wardrobe and we bet you'll find 70s favourite child, the long bell sleeves.
They are a fantastic option if you want to look a bit slimmer since they add volume to the wrists and give the illusion of a slimmer waist. You can either go for a bell sleeve blouse and pair it with a long skirt or opt for a flowy gown with these kind of sleeves.
Or another option could be to pair bell sleeve kurtas with cigarette pants. Make sure to add bold accessories to finish your retro look. And don't be afraid to experiment with voluminous hair.
We hope you have a safe and fashionable Diwali!
