A good way to start the new year would be by teaching your son some important life lessons

5 Things that every mom should teach their sons

5 Things that every mom should teach their sons

We are in the first week of 2016 and if you are wondering what would be a good way to start the new year, we have a suggestion for you. Start the year by teaching your child some important life lessons.

After all, who doesn’t want their little boys to grow into socially responsible gentlemen. Children have impressionable minds and the earlier you inculcate right values, the better it is. Doesn’t matter if your little boy is as young as 4 or if he has stepped into his teens, it is never too late to teach your sons these 5 important lessons. These will stay with him for life and help shape his character.

Learn to take the onus

Learn to take the onus

This is something that I give the most importance to. Inculcate a sense of responsibility in your son. Teach him to stand up for his actions, values, choices and beliefs. Above all, teach him to accept his mistakes gracefully and learn from them.

Always respect women

Always respect women

Teach your son to respect women and consider them as equals. A good way to do this would be to practise this in your own home. Don’t differentiate between your son and daughter. Treat them as equals. Children often learn from their parents’ actions.

Learn to love than showing strength

Learn to love than showing strength

As children, boys often get carried away by films and cartoons and start flaunting their physical strength. However, it would be a good idea to teach your child that more than physical strength, it is selfless love that matters. Teach him to love his family and friends. After all, as the cliche goes, love conquers all

Be accountable for your actions

Be accountable for your actions

It is important that your son learns the importance of accountability at a young age. Be it in his personal or professional life, he must take responsibility for his actions. Teach him the importance of being sincere towards whatever he does

Choose quality over quantity

Choose quality over quantity

You must teach your son that quality is more important than quantity and this applies to most things in life. Tell him to choose his friends wisely so they are always there to guide him. Superficiality wears off after a point. It is only then you realise a person’s true worth. Your son must know this
