Over the years, Indian beauty queens have managed to gain a place in the hearts of the international audience. Whether it is their physical beauty, their intelligence or their sheer grit, they have managed to become the queens of hearts even though they many not have managed to win all the crowns.

But there were few beauty queens in the past who not only made our country proud, but are now making their families proud by becoming great providers for their children.

Whether it is balancing home and work or simply being a working single mum, they are doing it all and evidently so, quite well.

Let's take a look at five Indian beauty queens who won international titles, but have left their crowns behind to become full-time mothers.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

When the demure and utterly gorgeous Aishwarya Rai won Miss World in 1994, nobody was surprised. The confident young girl that she was at the time, managed to wow everybody with her grace and maturity.

She soon became a household name thanks to her movie career, but all this took a backseat when she became a mother in 2011. Today, the 43-year-old balances an active career with motherhood.

She often talks fondly about her daughter and is always praises for her munchkin. "Aaradhya too is a sensitive girl. I think it’s a wonderful quality to have,” she recently shared in an interview.

Sushmita Sen

The 18-year-old confident Sushmita Sen won hearts and the Miss Universe crown when she exhibited her innate poise and grit during the contest in 1994. During the competition she spoke about the "essence of a woman and what it meant to her."

Little did she know she was very soon to fulfill that "essence" she spoke about and become a full-time single mother.

She struggled to become a mum, but her perseverance bore fruits and she was able to adopt her two daughters. "I was 24-years-old and I had been trying since I was 22 to become a mom by the process of adoption. And they didn’t allow it. It took us a while and we got the custody for my baby,” she recently shared.

“But the second child was actually a bigger court fight than the first one. Because in India, the rules said that you could not adopt a daughter after a daughter. You have to adopt a son. And I wanted to adopt a daughter, so 10 years I fought and then my Alisah came. It was a long wait,” she added.

Celina Jaitly

The grey-eyed beauty from Shimla, Celina Jaitly was crowned the fourth runner-up of Miss India Universe in 2001. She had already won hearts, thanks to her beauty and intelligent answers and that was enough for her to catapult into a mainstream actor.

However, the beauty queen soon left her career in the movies and became an entrepreneur and married the love of her life, Peter Haag in Austria. Jaitly is now a mum of two twin boys and is absolutely loving her new role.

In an interview sometime back, she stated, "I guess I have turned a full time mother. When compared to the previous years, my priorities have, of course, undergone a major change. I try and maintain a balance between my personal and professional lives but my children's needs always come first. So, I don't really mind being a full time mother and taking care of my babies."

Lara Dutta Bhupati

Lara Dutta Bhupati is perhaps one of the very few beauty queens in the world whose won two titles-Miss Intercontinental in 1997 and Miss Universe in 2000. She soon catapulted into a big-time movie star and in 2011 married tennis champion Mahesh Bhupati.

And, in January 2012, the couple were blessed with a daughter, Saira.

In her recent interview about co-parenting, the former beauty queen said, “Nobody or nothing that anyone says can really prepare you for what parenthood actually is going to be like. But, it’s a really amazing phase."

Yukta Mookhey

The tall and confident Yukta Mookhey stole the limelight in 1999 when she won the coveted Miss World title in London. She then starred in a few movies, but her career soon faded and she pursued charitable work till her marriage in 2008.

The former Miss World tied the knot with New York-based businessman Prince Tuli and had a baby boy, Ahhrein in November 2010. But their fairytale marriage wasn't to last long and the couple divorced in 2014.

Mookhey is a Bhartiya Janata Party member today as well as a single mum living in India.
