We often associate separation with sadness and sometimes even malice. But that's not always the case and certainly not with these couples.

They met, got married, lived a happy life together and then drew apart. And, even though a "happily ever after" wasn't in their destiny, they almost made it work with the next best thing! Happily friends forever!

From Malaika Arora Khan and Arbaan Khan to Hrithik Roshan and Sussane Khan, some famously divorced or separated couples have still remained friends even after their relationships dissolved. But they are not the only ones, there are more such friendly couples in India.

Hrithik Roshan and Sussane Khan

When these two childhood loves got married, they brought together two illustrious filmy families- the Khans and the Roshans. But after 17 years of matrimony and two young boys later, the two decided to part ways.

They divorced in 2014, but continue to co-parent their sons Hrehaan, 10 and Hridhaan, 8; and were recently seen celebrating Christmas as a family together.

Sussane even revealed that they continue to remain close as friends and will do so in the future. "We had reached a stage in our lives where I decided that it's better we weren't together. It was important to be aware and not be in a false relationship. We are close (friends)," she told Femina recently.

She also added, "We do chat a lot even though we don't hangout together anymore. But above all, we are very committed to our children. We are respectful towards each other. When children are involved, it's important to put our differences aside and protect them."

Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora Khan

The 'power couple' of Bollywood who have been married for 17 years and share a 14-year-old son Arhaan between them, filed for divorce last year. In fact, the couple announced that they had been separated for quite some time now.

However, the couple continue to be seen together for their son (they were together with family for Arhaan's birthday) and still remain close friends.

In fact, in a recent statement Arbaaz said, “Just because we’re separating, doesn’t mean we have to be worried about each other’s equations. I have a child with her, so we have to have a cordial and a great relationship. We’re very amicable with the split we had. I’m close to her side of the family, something that you can all see.”

He also added, "My association with her family has been that of over 21 years, which is almost like a lifetime. I have a growing up child, so there’s a lot of parenting responsibilities and duties we have to do and it can only happen if the atmosphere between the two of us is very conducive and normal. We both are extremely mature and can handle this.”

Ranvir Shorey and Konkona Sensharma

When these two first got married five years back, they surprised everybody with their uncanny pairing. But as they say, love can happen with anybody and at anytime, Sensharma and Shorey reiterated that they were very much in love.

But after five years of marriage and a son later, the two decided to part ways. They may even be headed for a divorce, but their friendship remains intact.

Konkona even tweeted, "Ranvir and I have mutually decided to separate, but continue to be friends and co-parent our son. Will appreciate your support. Thank you.

Pooja Bhatt and Munish Makhija

The Daddy actress and the VJ made for an unconventional couple, but for quite sometime they remained a quirky couple who were also great friends.

However, after 11 years of marital bliss, the two decided to separate, albeit with their friendship intact.

Bhatt shared the news in a tweet and indicated that the couple are still great friends. "To all those who care and especially those that don't my husband Munna and me have decided to part ways after 11 glorious years of marriage. Our split as some might call it is amicable and we hold each other in the highest esteem for now and forever. The reason I explain is because we are both part of the public domain. Our friends, well-wishers and foes are free now to speculate," she wrote.

Raghu Ram and Sugandha Garg

The Roadies star and anchor Raghu Ram and actor Sugandha Garg ended their nine-year marriage last year, but not their friendship.

Speaking to the media Raghu explained their equation. "Today, we might not be a couple, but we are still the best of friends. The important thing is that we started off as friends, and we realised that if our relationship isn’t working, then it is best to stay friends. We have prioritised our friendship over everything else. I am happy about that, and so is she," he said.

He added, "The time we spent apart was too much, and the time we spent together wasn’t enough to sustain our connection. It’s better to be in each other’s lives as friends instead."
