Winter is here and so are the numerous viruses that make children sick. Cough, cold, congestion, sore throat are some of the common ailments that affect children whenever there’s a change of season.

However, there are many natural ways to soothe the symptoms and make your feel less miserable. Try these safe and natural remedies to cut short your child’s sickness and help him overcome the debilitating symptoms.

Salt water

Salt water

Gargling with salt water is a tried and tested home remedy to soothe a sore throat. Add half a teaspoon of salt to a glass of warm water and help your child gargle with it. You can also add a dash of lemon to enhance its benefits. Make your child gargle three to four times a day for quicker relief.
Plenty of rest

Plenty of rest

It takes a lot of energy to fight an infection and that can wear out a child. That’s why many doctors advice plenty of rest to overcome an illness. If your child does not want to lie down, which is the case with many kids, you can perhaps read him a book or just lie down next to time. Nothing works faster than a little TLC.
Steam

Steam

Steam is the best way to clear congestion and soothe the sinuses, if your child is suffering from a cough and a stuffy nose. Now you can buy a steamer from the market or simply heat water in a wide bowl and make your child inhale the fumes for 10 to 15 minutes. Make sure that you are with him all this time to avoid any accident.

Water is extremely important to keep your child hydrated when he is sick. Besides, water also helps in flushing out the toxins from the body. If your child does not like to sip water, give him soups, fresh juice and even coconut water. They would also replenish the lost fluids in his body.

Honey and warm water can be effective in treating coughs. Take a glass of warm water and add one tablespoon of honey in it. Mix well and ask your child to sip on it throughout the day. If this fails to do the trick, go the tried and tested way and give your child haldi dhoodh. Everyone knows about the numerous health benefits of turmeric. Besides, these remedies have no side effects whatsoever.
