Lalitha M, a mother of a 4-year-old from Hyderabad, allegedly made her daughter sit on a hot frying pan as she wanted to get rid of her. The child has suffered burns and is currently in a hospital.
Lalitha and Y.Prakash (both 25), got married a few months back and the daughter from her first marriage stayed with them. They were working as a cook and watchman respectively at a hostel in S.R. Nagar here for the past few months, an official said. Both are natives of Ichchapuram of Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh.
It has still not been confirmed, whether Lalitha was divorced or ran away from the marriage, but it seems that she had made several attempts trying to get rid of her daughter.
Post the incident, the couple took the child to 'Bharosa', an integrated support center for women and children. They claimed that they found the child at Secunderabad Railway station.
Achyuta Rao, honorary president of the city-based child rights NGO- Balala Hakkula Sangham confirmed the same as reported by Hindustan Times.
However, SHE Team grew suspicious and grilled them. They admitted the four-year-old girl is Lalitha's daughter," SR Nagar inspector Mohammed Waheeduddin said. On further probing, it was found that the mother tortured the child to get rid of her. The injuries also looked like a few days old when it was brought to the police's attention.
Based on a complaint from an official of the Telangana’s child welfare department, the police registered a case under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act against the woman and her husband, the official said.
The girl was rescued and admitted to a hospital, the police inspector said. Further investigations will be carried before the cops decide on the fate of her parents.
