The story seems to be straight out of a Bollywood script. The 14-year-old girl steals Rs 38 lakh from her parents' safe and plots her own kidnapping bid only to be found partying with her friends in Dehradun.
Consumed by boredom, the Delhi-based teenager told the police that she wanted a break from the monotonous routine of her school and studies. So she thought of running away to Dehradun. What's more? Three of her friends agreed to accompany her.
The group set out to have some lavish fun. According to the sources, they paid Rs 11,000 for the taxi from Delhi to Dehradun, checked in to a five-star hotel at a cost of Rs 10,000 and spent close to Rs 80,000 shopping for branded footwear and clothes.
A tipoff came from an informer who had seen the girls boarding a taxi. "When we contacted the driver, he said he had dropped these girls at a hotel in Dehradun and was on his way back. He also verified the photos through Whatsapp," an officer informed Times of India. The girls are in police custody with Rs 37 lakh.
The girl's father is a builder and had received the amount in a land deal.
